The two month delay in reporting to surrender U-531 is a mystery ... did they bury the gold on an uncharted island? Then the question of U-997 surrendering in the same manner also suggest a precious cargo of gold could've been on board.  |
I doubt we'll ever find out unless someone comes across a hidden/buried stash.
