July 10th, 1940 - 3 kills total

Sortie#3 - 0 kills

Target for today was the convoy 'JAUNTY', just east of London. Some 40 Stukas with the escort of 76 109s. The RAF had had time to rest and refuel during the few hours of inacticity, so we were met with 3 flights of 12 Hurricanes over the target. The furball formed in a second, I lost sight of the Stukas due the poor visibility. So, I decided to grab an easy one again, by bouncing the first low flying target I'd spot. And here was a good candidate, some 1000m below me on my right, a hurricane chasing another 109. I banked and started my dive, should've kept my eyes on the speedometer as I quickly reached 600km/h, making it very hard to control the plane. I got a quick burst off at the Hurricane, with few hits making the Hurricane break off the 109s tail. As I got my plane back in control, I scanned the area for the Hurri I just bounced without luck. I took my 109 to a shallow climb to get the heck out of the beehive. Too late. A Hurricane was glued to my tail, getting some shots off at me. I screamed for help on the radio, but everyone was too busy fighting their own fights. Righto, what to do... continue the climb, not knowing how much E the Hurri has or start going nuts at low level... I decided to try the latter. I banked and rolled, dived and climbed, no result. I called may day when I got another burst to my wing, tower gave me the nearest friendly airfield's heading, I wonder what's the use, it's 50km away, I doubt I can even make it for 500m with this one on my tail. Oh well, nothing to loose, I dived down to tree tops, full gas and hope for the best. After awhile of running, the Hurricane was unable to catch up on me, but still kept on going. My engine had been hit and didnt sound that good, it could give up any minute and I'd be doomed. Last try, I banked hard to left, going head to head with the Hurri. Both tried to get shots at another, no hits. I got back to my heading to home at tree tops, scanning my 6'oclock to see what the Hurri was up to. It seems the last try worked, the Hurri was circling at maybe 400m trying to find me, with no luck. (Gotta love this darn AI!!) So I was saved and even without kills, I prolly saved one Luftwaffe pilot's arse and I get to fight another day.
