When you are heading to your patrol grid set your speed to 7 knots thats the best speed for fuel use and distance traveled also when your out on patrol hunting for ships in your patrol grid on the surface cruise at 3 knots to conserve your fuel also every two hours in your game dive to periscope depth and search for contacts on your hydrophone you can hear convoys/ships 30 plus kms away the IA sonar man will pick them up at 8-10km away.
