Absolutely.

Caligula had a short reign as Emperor - 37 to 41 AD. But he threw some fabulous parties and squandered an entire empire's wealth on self indulgence.

( I'm following the script - official histories now ). He set the standard for future mad emperors - Caracalla, Elagabalus, Commodus....

He had great contempt for the ruling class ( himself excepted of course ) and expressed it by making his horse Incitatus a Senator and possibly a Consul ( Prime Minister ). Could Incitatus's spirit still live on in some of our current lot of pollies?????

Anyway, Caligula made a lot of enemies and when the time was right they struck, killing him and his entire family, plunging Rome into a familiar pattern of anarchy.

Was he that bad??? There's not many near contemporary sources left, and they read like modern day tabloid women's magazines, you know the ones that publish all the trash about the Royal Family. ( Why they don't sue I don't know ).

In a future age will they be regarded as the true history of our times???

Over to you Jim.
