Where were you sent on this patrol where you find no action?. I've gone for over two weeks game time and had nothing happen and then I keep running into more Japanese ships than I have torpedoes.
As for your question about the tails, they've been put back in and then taken out again. I've heard some discussion lately about putting them back in again. You'll have to wait and see when the next release comes out.
