With Windows 7 64 bit do I even need LAA running?

Yes....ABSOLUTELY, YOU NEED LAA!!
If you have a 64 bit computer, with 4 gigs of memory (or more) you
need to use an app like Large Address Aware for SH4 (or,
any game that was designed to use limited amounts of memory, that's considered "average" or even "below average" amounts today). SH4 was designed to only use 2 gigs of memory. Without the help of LAA, this 2 gig maximum is the total amount the game can use. LAA simply "opens" up the game .exe capabilities, to allow it to use the computer assets you may have. Without it, you're not allowing this old game to use the resources your computer may have.
Here's the web site that explains just what
Large Address Aware does.
