What about firewalls, are they needed?
Thanks.
Now the Internet is the Internet and HTML plus all the web scripting languages do not care if you are running MS-DOS, Windows 10, any flavor of Linux or an Apple ][.

So at least a hardware firewall is necessary. If you're sitting behind a router, you have a hardware firewall, with logging and all that. I'm running Ubuntu behind only the hardware firewall, set not to return a ping, and nothing else. No problems for six years.

The same cautions you have for Windows browsing apply for Linux. Don't go looking for trouble. Treat unsolicited links, shortened links, any clickbait (you know it when you see it) with suspicion.

Most malware so far is Windows specific and can't touch you. Yet. Sooner or later that will change. Keep your ear to the ground and backups at the ready.
