You do not need to use the chart icon.
Just use the E key to see charts and hide again.
This way you can leave the recognition page open on the target in case you need it again.

I also seem to get the flat spot with the mouse when trying to move to the water line.
It might be the mouse speed dpi when you are trying to be very accurate.

On the 180 targets course that you made when you use the protractor you do not need to take the protractor back to your boat to get the 90 bearing.
When you take the protractor back to your u-boat you then have to go back to the protractor line on the targets course to draw the line out to 90
Placing the protractor anywhere along the targets course line and making the 90 angle and placing the ruler over it will give you your compass bearing needed straight away and will save a few precious seconds.

I liked your use of the drag-gable compass.
Very underrated tool.

I was surprised by the number of aircraft patrolling that you mentioned.
I only saw very few in NWA.
