That symbolizes how we cling to war even when the gig is up.The French where in Indochina(Vietnam,Laos,Cambodia) before the US was and they lost yet here you see these hardcore Frenchmen clinging to an utterly lost cause(by about 14 years).

It is a rather complex film(compared to the typical action flick).

I did notice Colby converted and that the French were there because of that.
It was a well done movie...but long. You really have to like....clear an evening just to watch it. And I agree on the part about Kilgore. It's one thing to have a confident leader...but that guy...whew.
