My country is blocked too, but it is still possible to download from GF via a proxy gate. You don't need to install any programs, neither you need to change anything in your browser options!
For example, you can use the proxy gate at
http://sitenable.com/ to access GF from Netherlands, thus being able to download files with no problem.
My list of proxy gates sorted according to their speed:

Poland, Sweden, France are banned from GF, so their proxy gates are useless. I usually use NL or USA.
Also have in mind that some of the proxy gates may not work with GF, it's usually a matter of a few tries.
