I do like the BBCs 'live' events, they are quite interesting to follow. The current one on Nick Buckles grilling at the Select Committee has a very good email from someone called 'James' in London:

Quote:
This should have been in the hands of the Police and Armed Forces from the beginning. The idea that private firms are better run and more cost efficient is a myth. We should have learned this lesson from the mess created by privatisation, the collapse of banking and the mess of PFIs. I hope G4S hasn't been given any VIP Olympic tickets.
This is quite so, and it would have been quite possible had the current shambles (government is too strong a word) had not cut both the police and armed forces to levels in which we have having to call out soldiers who are on leave to cover for the failings of the private sector.
The idea that the private sector will put the good of the general public ahead of its own profits is a complete and utter myth, which is being displayed by the fact that G4S has promised more than it can deliver because it wanted that lucrative contract from the government.
