The map clearly shows a "submarine training area" northeast of the shipping lanes, placing it in striking position of commercial shipping. The map doesn't show the naval base at Bandar-e Abbas, where the Kilos are currently based at. Google Maps clearly shows a Kilo docked there...along with a good portion of the Iranian Navy.  |
You are going to base that assessment on a 10 year old chart?
The new IRGCN submarine base in the Gulf is located at +26° 43' 9.68", +55° 58' 21.65" (The IRIN does not base their Kilos out of here)
The new Iranian naval base under construction (for a while now
) is at Chabahar.
