I just picked an expert lock on my second try.  I'm not even a character focusing on lock picking.
Edit: I like the fact that you can find soul gems with souls already in them. I don't know if this was in Oblivion, but it's nice being able to recharge my sword without having to use a soul trapping ability. |
There also isn't any enchanters though that I know of... which pretty much forces you to use soul gems. As I recall you could take your weapons to enchanters and have them recharge them for a price.
