Kind of. Only two u-boat kaleuns had over two hundred thousand tons, and they both made sixteen patrols each. On the other hand several came close in seven patrols or less, so it certainly was possible.

On the other hand the game makes it much easier to find and sink ships, and no mod made has changed that.
