The book covers mainly ASW defense of Task Group 79.1, centered on the ARA
25 de Mayo (the carrier) . The TG used a comprehensive and sustained ASW plan (using the destroyer escort, Sea Kings and Trackers), and it limited British submarines freedom of action.
Of course, Belgrano TG did not use proper ASW tactics and did not have organic air cover. So the
Conqueror enjoyed enough freedom of action to shot a three salvo from 1200 yards.
The contrast is the main point of the book.
