Oh I am 100% convinced they carried and fired Mk-14's because they are listed in the patrol reports.

I couldn't get my head around the idea that submarines built prior to the Mk-14's development could fire the five foot longer Mk-14's.

However there was a big refit in 1931 and that I believe was to bring the renamed V-boats up to date to be able to carry and fire Mk-14's.

The other big refit was in 43 when the power-plant was beefed up and some racks were removed to provide bunks and space for personnel in conducting special missions etc. - a task these big boats were better equipped for.

I apologize for leaving my post up there without updating it with the latest however I just came across the 1931 refit yesterday. Now it all makes sense.
