I think it's just luck, I had 2 nVidia cards and had nothing but troubles, the second was the fan, I since have had 4 ATI cards, 3 have been perfect, one I overclocked a bit too far and it never recovered,
overall I have been quite happy except that their cards tend to run hotter than nVidia, and that is a bad thing!
One of the main reasons I stick with AMD and ATI is they are the same company but without our support they may close shop, has gotten close once before, if that ever happens there will be no competition and prices for Intel/nVidia will skyrocket whilst quality drops!
