Hi Mad,

The bridge that Hunter brought up only applied to the first 10-15 or so of the Sumners.

It was based on British practice, but was found to be very awkward to use and very unpopular.

AFAIK, only one DesDiv deployed with Sumners with bridges like that. They were part of the support forces for Operation Neptune/Overlord.

As a result of their experiences with the "British" bridge, BuShips elected to change over to the later style - rebuilding the earlier ships.

So the earlier bridge was only in use for a few months at most. I don't think any Sumners deployed to the Pacific with it.

Either way, it would be very, very rare to see one.

The later style would make more sense, as that was the only type the vast majority of Sumners had, as well as the only type that the Gearings were fitted with.
