Need to watch. Your new drive will be SATA and have a different connector than the drive in your old computer which is probably a IDE connector. SATA is a better/faster drive. Anyway, your PSU on the new computer may not have the correct connector for an older IDE drive. I know you got a new 1TB external drive. Before I would crack open the new computer and pulling wires I would consider transfering your files to the external drive and then move to your new computer.

If something goes wrong Dell might ask just WTH you were doing inside the machine and then decline any warranty claim for repairs/replacement.
