in my experience on and off as it is with SH3 yes you can

ive tweaked thompsons mod with other sounds i like and it works fine, use jsgm to undo any mistakes, the modders friend for sure....

although i havnt played out the sim in a big way

be aware of the .sml file is it? it can conflict with other mods which include sounds but its resonably straight forward to merge those files from memory using note pad?

hope this helps no doubt some one with more comprehensive knowledge may show up....
