When should i remove my deck gun?

Using OHII and sort of ix mod

already gotten large convoys right from the start in sep 1939. since each ship in large convoys are generally 7k tons at the very least, i have already gotten nearly 2.4 million tons sunk and its only may 1940 - unrealistic i know.

however i noticed that generally my deck gun contributes around 12 ship kills each patrol which makes me wonder when should i remove it, i.e. when merchants are too heavily armed to even consider a deck gun duel

thanks for any help :salute::salute:

Hello Kirin,
I know that OH2 is a huge improvement over the stock campaign, but still the TWoS megamod makes more changes for realistic gameplay, also for the Deck Gun. In TWoS, the 'power' of the deck gun is largely reduced to a realistic level, in no way are you going to use it to sink ships straight on...You use it to finish ships that don't sink after your successful torpedo attack.

Also the risks that your sub will take shell shots while on the surface is very real and dangerous, just yesterday I was using TC too much with terrible consequences... That's to say you are not going to make many mistakes for free :)
Merchands and other neutral ships in TWoS also happen to be armed and are not just shooting ducks.

So, realistically you will NOT score that great a tonnage in TWoS, just because the gameplay is harder and you need to work...

If you are looking for more realism, you should think about installing TWoS, it includes OH2, it includes TDW NewUIs and uncountable improvements and game corrections - especially realistic navigation and torpedo firing procedures.

This is not a 'promo' response as it sounds, but just my experience in playing it :03:

Cheers,

yea well actually i use oh ii because im too lazy to play total realism on wos lmao :oops:

so i guess i will just keep my deck gun till 1941 or something

and i like to engage in artillery duels with merchants who are also more heavily armed than me

they generally have at least 2 decks guns but i always come up top... playing realistically in the sense that i do not reload games once i die which has not happened yet thankfully

Oh but: you can play 'easy' in TWoS too, you just do not load 'Real navigation', and you can also use Auto TDC for torpedo solutions if you like. Some SH5 veterans will say this is a waste of time, but don't let this shy you from trying TWoS. The Deck gun will not be easier however, you would need a LOT of shells to sink a ship by only using deck gun.

oh thanks i didnt know that

do planes and escorts "map hack" in twos? right now on oh II planes either map hack me like crazy or they just fly past me the whole day without spotting me at all (May 1940) lel:haha::haha:

Well, IMHO planes in SH5 do not act so aggressive as you would see it in SH3, at least that's my experience when playing the early war 1940-1941, I have recently been overflown without the plane dropping any bomb, he must have been on exercice only or without ammo.. :haha:

But make use of the radio man's 'Signal Contacts' ('Kontakte melden'), and if german airports are close you will get *great* assistance by friendly planes comming in against your naval targets, and this time my friend: they will do the whole job, not leaving anything for me left :)
And no, for that you won't receive any credits or points...but that's ok I think...
