1C and 777 confirm partnership to develop CoD sequel
http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=36417
Battle of Stalingrad is the new name of the "sequel". Interesting move by both and the rumour mill has been circulating that this was in the offing for a little while now. If nothing else it might make the sequel more accessible than CoD was given the hardware requirements for the RoF engine are not as high, but who knows? The FAQ on the official site has some interesting hints about the payware model but is light on detail. What does similar but not identical mean?:hmmm: Quote:

Quick question: Why are you posting something about Call of Duty in the flightsim forum? Shouldn't it be in the general games discussion forum?

In this case CoD= Cliffs of Dover.

So, is the Cliffs of Dover engine any good? I'm interested... |
I'm glad they chose the ROF engine, and wish them all the best! In some sense this is kind of expected, since 1C games have been sort of struggling with CoD, while 777 were a sort of successful offshoot of the original IL-2 development that later turned into its own thing. I just see it as a talented team coming back to work on a proper Russian flight sim.
And the choice of scenario is not unexpected. I think they probably realized that trying to market to the West is not always a smart choice. The Russian market alone is a big one, and as IL-2 itself showed, as long as the game is good, even those who weren't originally interested in Eastern Front air warfare will get it. |
That last section of the Q&A is the best - no Ubisoft.

I'm still ambivilent to the change and will wait and see the result before making a judgement.
Ubi and steam being on the outer I see as a good thing. |

I think this might be good, Stalingrad may be a bit more manageable to make a decent flight sim about than Battle of Britain. I mean, sure there were some major air operations but nothing of the scale of BoB. |
I'm very excited about this. :yep:
RoF is a very good sim (granted, there's not much to simulate in those planes) and the atmosphere is amazing. Besides, after CloD, IL2 can only go up. :hmmm: |
I hope it will include, or a later add on, the Crimea - Sevastapol, Kerch, et al.
One of the books I've read this year included a long stint in these areas - constantly pushing forward then retreat. And why hasn't 777 Studios ever done a 777 sim? :hmmm: |
