[REL] Bungo pete

Bungo pete. That ex Japanese submariner turned destroyer captain. He know's his stuff. Reputed to be superhuman, or supernatural, the Bungo straights is known as a submarine graveyard. Unless your crazy good, or just plain crazy, avoid the Bungo Straights if you can. If you must go into the Bungo Suido, good luck, your going to need it.

The Akikaze!

"The Akikaze never misses!"

My advice, this guy is death incarnated, avoid him, and don't try and get around this guy in calm weather.

Bungo Pete, by ducimus

Inspired by the nemises from the book and movie, "run silent, run deep".

Spawns every 4 days in the bungo Suido area, and takes bout 2.5 to 3 days to finish his patrol route. This destroyer is equiped with, 2 DC racks, 2 K guns, highly sensitive hydrophones and sonar, and is elite in crew rating. Unless your crazy good, or just plain crazy, it would be best to avoid him. Remember, "the Akikaze never misses!"

Historical Note, the Real Akikaze is a name of a singlur ship from the a Minekaze class of destoryers:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minekaze_class_destroyer
http://www.combinedfleet.com/akikaz_t.htm
http://pwencycl.kgbudge.com/M/i/Minekaze_class.htm

Subsequenly, i used the Minekaze data files when creating the "akikaze destroyer"

NOTE:
On a spot of luck, Japan has no destroyer escorts in the stock sea rosters. By creating this unit as a destroyer escort, ive removed the possiblity of it being accidently spawned elsewhere in the campaign game since there are no "Generic destroyer escort" entries in the MIS files that im aware of. WIth this mod, Japan has only one destroyer escort.

File structure:
###############

/DATA/SEA/NDE_AKIKAZE/*.*
--------------------------
- Ship support files, inheirts model from Minekaze.

/DATA/ROSTER/NAMES.CFG
----------------------
- Added "Akikiaze Destroyer" so the ship is properly named in game

/DATA/ROSTER/JAPAN/SEA/DEAKIKAZE.CFG
---------------------------
-cfg file assigning the unit to japans inventory

/DATA/CAMPAIGNS/CAMPAIGN/JAP_HARBOR_TRAFFIC.MIS
----------------------------
-Places Bungo pete in the BUngo Suido area

KNOWN ISSUES AND COMPATIABLITY:
################################

No known issues, should work with any mod or modpack that does not alter the Jap harbor traffic.mis file.

Cool! I saw the movie and was wondering where are the Bungo Starights.... I didnīt know this was real, I thought it was just a movie.

Good work!

The bungo suido (aka bungo channel, or bungo strights) is real.

The "Akikaze" as presented in the book and movie, was fictional. The real akaikaze wasnt anything like it was presented in the movie and was also the scene of a recorded war crime in the execution of prisoners on its aft deck.

That's an awesome enhancement to this game. Thank you!

Thank you soooo much! Another way to die. (I downloaded it as soon as I saw it.)

Strictly speaking, we need a Jap sub and a decoy with a shallow draft if we are going for a Run Silent, Run Deep 'Bungo Straits' scenario, as those who know the movie will recall. :D

Nevertheless, very cool.

Will this new ship be able to be used in editor missions I can create?

Yeah well, its a mod, compromises have to be made somewhere. Besides for that scenario to work, wed have to have a submerged AI sub that can shoot torpedos. Good luck gettign that to work! :rotfl:

Sorry i missed your question, but yup. Thats how i originally tested it. I created a single mission first. After i had established everything was working correctly, i placed him an the campaign game, took a stroll over to the bungo straights, and he seriously kicked my ass. Calm seas, less then 300 feet of water, and he nailed me on the first pass. The Akakazi never misses :rotfl:

FAdmiral 05-05-07 11:01 PM

Well now, I wouldn't say never. I just tried it in my new mission and it
performed magnificient. Of course, I was in good depth but he still had
a location on me most of the time. He was at a loss when I hid under a
merchant dead in the water (my old SH3 trick) but when I came out again,
he picked me right up. I wanted to see how good he was on the surface so
I came up. He immediately rammed me and did NOT self-destruct???????
This is the first time I have seen that happen !! Did you make this new DE
indestructable? He didn't seem to take any damage at all. It destroyed me
thought big time....
