Silent Hunter 2 bearings questions

Hi!

I was just now playing SH2 (purchased version from GOG with some mods added, such as vickers oil slick and aces campaign) but one thing is throwing me off and i not sure if it is an error or not:

When in the conning tower facing the bow is indicated as bearing 180 and facing to the stern as 0 - this seems to be in reverse to information i get from the sound room - - is this right? it means whatever info i get from the sound room i have to look in the opposite direction

You are correct, that is reversed. Strange, facing the bow should be 000 Relative and the stern is 180 Relative.

If you are heading North 000 True, your bow would be 000 Relative. If you are heading East, 090 True, your bow would still be facing 000 Relative. This should match your sound man.

Does this help?

well i have played the scenario again - the first mission in the aces campaign and have finally made it back to Kiel, only managed to sink one merch and one destroyer but anyhoo i can report back in that i was mistaken regarding the directions were fixed to the bow and stern, it just was appearing that way, but they changed depending on my direction

this being said is it the case that the bearings which are shown in red at the top of hte screen when i am in the conning tower are not relative to me but to true north? is this right? i notice that there are 2 sets of bearings when at periscope

i should i guess go and check the manual as i confused by these

Yes, that is correct, True north. If you turn your boat in a tight circle, one compass will spin and will always point True north.

Happy Hunting!
