Silent Hunter I German Edition are crew voices in english?

Hello fellows, since in german Amazon silent Hunter I sells quite cheap, I got an itch to buy it since I never played it. But I am curious since its the german version are the crew voices in german or english? I am asking because I have seen a video of the french version and the crew voices where in french (ouch!).
How about the 2D Panels are they translated to german? Would feel a bit queer in an american sub!

This is a late response, not useful to you for a buying decision anymore, but just for info:
I own the Silent Hunter I Commander Edition 1.31 that I still play with DosBox, and the menu, the voices and videos are in German only (caus bought in Germany), I didn't find the English voices on CD although I guess they are available to download somewhere.

Thanks XenonSurf,

a pity the german version is in german only, at least SSI could have included the english crew voices. In the german version of the Aces of the Deep CD there is at least a choice of language and crew voices.

If Aanker stops by, we'll ask him what he remembers of the files. I've got the game still active on my hard drive, and could possibly make copies of the menu and audio. We'll have to see. 'Course, I have to find where I put the game...

I too, I would really like to have english menu and voices, having these in german is not 'appropriate' for gameplay reasons to say at least :)

I have it installed. I zipped my SHCE install complete with Hawks utilities and Kim Ronhofs Tools installed on it years ago, and as I move from computer to computer I just unZip the zip to install it. Nowadays it runs on DOSBox just fine on Win 7 (64) if anyone is curious. Of course I still have the original CD however it isn't necessary for me to use it to install the game because of my zip method. There are instructions on how to install it on modern OS here on Subsim and offsite places like subsowespac.org.

I wouldn't think that changing the language the voices speak to English would matter, however how are you going to read the messages that SH1 generates if you can't read German, French, etc? The Menus wouldn't be in English either.

My recommendation is to fork out the money to purchase an English version. Yes, it isn't cheap however Silent Hunter Commanders Edition is still worth the $$. IMO it's a better game than SH4 although the graphics are dated.

Happy Hunting!
