2010 SubsimMachFest

CANCELLED!

The competition has been cancelled due to lack of interest. I'll see if I'm still around in 12 months time and whether I feel like running another one then.

awsome, just 1 question, people taking it in SH:V have to wait for the patch (16th apr) i would think so they don't get any of those buggy slow framed command room bugs it currently has?? other wise i think we can expect some cool stuff.

TarJak 03-31-10 08:13 PM

OK I wasn't aware that anyone was having that problem. None of the videos of SHV that I've sen have shown any evidence of this bug. I'm not saying it doesn't exist but if it is a real problem for a number of potential entrant's I'm willing to discuss and extension to the deadline here. We are 31 days off that deadline so I will close off futher discussions on the 16th when the patch is meant to come out.

Stuttering inside the boat is quite common problem and something the new patch will address. :yep:

TarJak 04-01-10 05:48 AM

OK if it is a big deal I can extend the deadline to 15 May if everyone is OK with that.

As I said, I've got a short attention span.:D Seriously the 7 minute limit is there as a challenge to movie makers to tell an engaging story in that amount of time.

In terms of your video, Does it comply with all the other criteria? If so I might take a look at decide whether or not to allow it. The alternative is for you to cut 3 mins out if you can to get it within the time criteria. You can then have your directors cut version that is not entered. I'll leave it to you to decide what you want to do.

Thanks for your replay.

You can see the video (link under my sig).
My video is complying the criteria, except its 3 minutes longer and maybe the third rule.
I didnt add those exact words but i mentioned subsim :)

Please allow my video i wouldn't know which part to cut because its directed to cover several years :D

The question I have to answer is whether allowing your video would be fair to other entrants who more strictly comply with the criteria?

On balance it could be argued that you have 3 extra minutes to develop your story or theme and the wording whilst being close, is not what is specified in the criterion.

Additionally I have to consider what precedent this sets for other entrants who may want to take advantage of additional time or no-compliance in other respects. The rules are there to keep things on track and to basically please me so based on this I'd prefer not to relax them at this time.

There is still lots of time for you to create a comliant entry and I'd really prefer to make sure that all entries both this year and in future contests are compliant.

Of course this may be a moot point if your vid is the only one that I get.:D

Again I leave it to you to decide what you want to do.

CraBBMan 04-09-10 02:46 PM

Ok i respect that.
Rules are there to be followed.

I could make another video, but the truth is that i don't have time nor "idea", because this is a game, you don't have much freedom there.
What i want to say is that all videos look alike, and i tried to change that with background music and sound effects(i hope i succeeded :)), so i don't have a part in my video which im able to cut, plus i deleted my project files (40gb on my hdd).

Don't get me wrong, im not complaining, it's your contest and you are the boss here.
I made this video and that's it from me.

You decide, i just need simple yes or no.

Regards.

TarJak 04-09-10 07:38 PM

Then the answer for this video then is no. There is plenty of time to put another compliant entry in if you choose to do so.

TarJak 05-02-10 06:18 PM

I'm thinking of calling this off for lack of entries. So far I've received two entries neither of which complies with the rules of the competition.

It sounds like the bugs in SHV are causing problems and without having a set date for the release of the patch it may mean that we do not continue with the competition.

TarJak 05-15-10 05:47 AM

I am going to allow 48 hours for responses on whether the festival should run this year or not. Looks like the SHV fiasco has left a lot of people cold on the idea of joining in.

Looks like I'll have to keep the Kaleun's hat for myself this year.:arrgh!:
