Few questions regarding the Tiger

1. Was the driver's viewport adjustable? I've seen photos of it being just a tiny slit and others where it has been much bigger.

2. The four hatches on the back deck of the Tiger (the one's with grills), are they storage or maintenance hatches?

That's all for now, might have few more later on. :hmmm:

Although this is obviously a model, I'm guessing they're for maintenance.

I'll ask vase for you, he works on the only working Tiger in the world.

The Armoured louvres at the back of the vehicle are for protection/inspection (also to allow air to flow throught the radiators) the larger front ones cover the radiators and topfuel tanks the rear ones cover the fans. I am not sure if the front ones hinge like that would need to check.

and yes the fahrer klappe (drivers viewport is adjustable)

Darn, you're one lucky bastard, vase! :o

Righto, I have one more question. This time on the King Tiger.

Does anyone know the height of the hull without the turret? The height with turret is 3.09 meters, but for the love of boobies I cant find the height of the hull nor the height of the turret anywhere.

Sledgehammer427 11-22-09 09:36 PM

hmmmm
I did all the looking I could (on the web) and the most I could come up with was a guesstimate.

So I broke out my scale model.

my 1/35 Tiger II (Henschel Turret) is 8.99 (rounded up to 9 for this) CM tall
minus turret it is 5.8 cm tall

9/309=5.8/x

9x=1792.2

by my (probably shoddy) calculations, that puts a turretless Tiger II at approximately 199.13 cm tall
or almost 2 meters.

That's the best I could do with a ruler and a little maths.

Looking at some photos with soldiers standing next to it, they're heads are abit under the top edge and with some soldiers who are noticeable taller than the other have their heads roughly at the same level with the top edge of the hull.

That in mind, you're calculations seems to be fairly accurate (I was hoping for a "official" figure, but I searched the net too without results ).

So, the true height of the hull would be, give or take, 1.5 meters (I've seen ground clearance figure of 49cm). :hmmm:

Thanks, Sledge! :salute:
