Alfa SSN NOT detected by MAD

Title says it all. He's at 124 ft.
To my knowledge, ALL subs are detected by MAD! |
That is interesting, I'll have to check that out. Although the pressure hull is made of titanium, there's definitely still a lot of steel on that boat. Or, at least I would imagine so :D

Yea, I flew all around above it over and over and never any MAD alerts.
So then flew to a ship to makes sure it was working and it went off as normal |
Supposedly one of the design parameters of the Alfa class was low detectability by MAD. So it might not be undetectable, just significantly harder.
How successful the Soviets were with that goal, or how the game might account for that, I have no idea. I don't think I have seen before how the game determines a vessel's MAD signature or if it is more sophisticated than a simple YES or NO. Mike |
Thanks Mike. I'd say they did a good job if they actually made it undetectable with MAD...
I'm just going by what I read in one the documents for the game, which stats ALL subs are detected by mad.. And this guy was only at 124 ft lol |
One additional note on MAD detection that may or may not have anything to do with your encounter.
The depth of the sub has less to do with detection range than the distance between the MAD sensor and the submarine. So MAD platform altitude and offset distance, as well as sub depth, have an effect as well. Mike |
The Alpha had a titanium hull. :03:
MAD shouldn't be able to find it. |
