Hi StanT, I'm not sure where you heard that announcement. It is incorrect. I feel the enemy AI is quite good as it is. I will not be adjusting it further.

Bad situation

Hi
I got into a bad situation when playing SH3. I survived a depth charge attack, but my both engines were destroyed (actually this has happened to me twice, the other time I also lost my batteries). So, there I was, in the middle of the ocean without the engines. I couldn't get anywhere so I had to quit the game and start all over again. That was really annoying.
Would it be possible, in the future versions of GWX, to get someone to tow your boat to the nearest port if something like that happens? I don't know if they ever had to tow submarines during the war but I have read about other damaged ships being towed to port for repairs.

Sorry but towing is completely unrealistic unless you are within 100km of port or Milkcow.

Losing both your main engines is tough luck, but you knew the risks Herr Kaleu before you left port...nothing for it but to abandon ship and hope you are rescued. Happened many times during the war..

Well, regarding the towing of U-boats... it is not something we are able to mod anyway.;)

The German submarine U-570 was captured by Britain on 27 August 1941 in the North Atlantic south of Iceland, in position 62.15N, 18.35W, after being damaged by a British Hudson aircraft (Sqdn. 269/S). She was towed to Thorlaks-hafn, Iceland and salvaged.
She was commissioned into the Royal Navy as HMS Graph on 19 September 1941. HMS Graph was decommissioned from active service in February 1944. Graph was lost on 20 March 1944 when she ran aground on the westcoast of the Island of Islay, Scotland.

I'd prefer that people d/l the latest version, which is at my website. You've provided a link to the older MD5Compare.

Re the "corrupt" screenshot, this is easily explained:

Either:

a) danlisa has uploaded a corrupted version of GWX.md5 which includes the HTML header text (I have seen such a file being distributed), or

b) someone needs to provide a link that automatically downloads the file in text format. Currently, if an IE user (at least) clicks on the d/l link at http://danlisa.files-upload.com/files/367783/GWX.md5, it merely opens the file in the browser, requiring the user to manually save it. The user therefore needs to know that it is a text file, and needs to be saved as one. If users save in (the default) html format, then they will get exactly the same "corrupted" output as Buglepong. Likewise if they right-click and select "Save target as...".

Of course, the display will still correctly show which GWX bin files are corrupted, but it will include the unnecessary html text.

I want to stress that this is NOT a problem with MD5Mate, but with the way GWX.md5 is being distributed.

Well, in that case, I suppose we can forget the whole idea of towing... but I had to try, anyway. :)

Artic convoys and missions against them

I was reading through the GWX manual and it has map showing the allied northern convoy routes. I´m currently playing a campaing in which I belong to the 11th flotilla. In the first six patrols (its now 1943) I haven´t however received any missions against the artic convoys. I´d like to know if the game/mod assigns missions against those convoys at all?

Apart from the documented work-arounds we've implemented for the Indian Ocean and Black Sea operational areas, SH3 will only assign players to patrol areas covered by the abbreviated Kriegsmarine grid map present in-game. For any points outside the KM grid map... you can choose to shift your patrol area any time you wish. Otherwise, general patrol areas were set to be historically accurate in GWX.

We did not allow the absence of the full KM grid map in SH3 to influence our decisions regarding campaign scripting in any appropriate U-boat operational area.

GWX Installation Problem

Evening all.

I'm a newbie to SH3 - been playing for about 3 weeks, and loving it.

Just downloaded GWX, and tried to install - got problems though.

My InstErr.log:

Verification of "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII" by The Grey Wolves Expansion failed.
Test 1 = PASSED
Test 2 = PASSED
Test 3 = PASSED
Test 4 = PASSED
Test 5 = FAILED - c1d3097cbf96b1247880096149598dac

I cancelled in the install when an error came back - the installation 'rolled back'. However SH3 will not now run; nor will the GWX installation start again.

I reinstalled SH3, tried again, and go the same message.

Any suggestions?

Is your SH3 game patched to 1.4 because if it is not, GWX will not work.
