Walther

How do you get the walther boat. Is there a tonage requirement?

The Fishlord 04-20-08 01:06 PM

Well, it has to be about March 1944, and you have to have gotten at least 30,000 renown. I think that's all you need.

Be aware the regular TYpe XID2 is better in several respects; you get Albereichs, better surface firepower, better surface speed, and most important perhaps, better range. The Type XVIII is nothing if not short ranged.

If you just want to 'try out' the XVIII you can download this mod found here.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=132224

Note that you will have to start a new career to get the XVIII with this mod.

Actually

I got my Walther after my second patrol, I guess late summer '43. First career I got mine spring of '44.

As someone noted above, the range is tough to get used to after the D-2. I took my D-2 from Rabaul to San Francisco and back with no fuel issues at all.

Noobs question

Hi all, i got the U-796 type XVIII Walther and i have some question.
1. How recharge the Walther turbine after the fuel is empty? seem refit to the dock don't work.
2.Seem this Sub drink more than a Ferrari, my first mission is take pics to the madagascar coast, i start from Malesia but seem impossible arrive, i used diesel and electric engine but nothing to do, no point for refit and the distance is too much.
Please someone help me.

Thx and sorry for my English so bad.

Agreed with range and surface firepower

But,
you can have Alberichs after the first patrol
you can reach higher speed surfaced/submerged than with the XI/D2 (25/29 Knots with my crew on general quarters)

1. No idea, sorry. End Patrol perhaps? Stupid, i know.
2. Never user more than 1/3 speed, that should give you about ~10 Knots on Diesel and or the Walther propulsion while on patrol. Use higher speed only if needed in combat. That will give you a lot more range ... but it still sucks, i know ^^

Ha! The walther Boat kinda blows.....All it has is speed.....and thats not even worth it.....no deck gun, no AA guns you cant see out of,no Aft Torpedo Tubes, and w/o that turbine i believe it goes SLOWER than the regular uboat AND the thing doesnt REcharge or Refuel. that blows. on a normal u boat i just get on the heavy flak cannon because the AA gunners cant take the airplane down. but i dont know EXACTLY where it is so i wait for my men to Aim and fire then i find it and blow it outta the sky. the walther AA Suck So hard cause i cant see JACK outta the turrets. yes ok it has WOnderful speed. but thats Practically ALL it has. i use fore torpedoes on mainly merchants and SOMETImes on escorts but Usually the escorts are Behind me. Wtf am i going to do. Go down 80 M? hed just be waitin till i come up. wait for him to pass in front of me after he drops his load? id rather hit him when hes behind me. in walther that aint gonna happen. however in the Other Uboat You can give that sub WONDERful upgrades like that 5 inch deck gun and tarnmatte and that uboat can work just as well as walther if you have a good crew...

Sinking merchants and tankers is boring after a while. The Walter boats are great for toe-to-toe action with destroyers. LOL, that’s all I want to do; that or attack a Task force….I just love zipping around destroyers! This must be included in SH5!

Type XVIII Kilo plus.

Was disappointed with the XVIII performance until I introduced it to Silent 3D editor. Is now tweaked to the sort of performance I think it might have had if it had gone into production. You have to ignore the fact that hydrogen peroxide propulsion was and is notoriously unstable (KURSK???).

Specs now are Surface speed 25kts Submerged 25Kts Range 35000+K.
Maybe Somewhat unrealistic but I like it. Creep motors unchanged.

Does the 3D Editor come with the stock game?:DL
