What? I can't hear you. :O:

Not the big project I've been working on, but a prop that's not Star Trek and I have wanted to build for a long time, years actually. I had one that I traded away on what ended up a bad deal and just never got around to making another, although I did make a later season variant.
This is a replica of the first season SeaQuest Vpal communicator. The parts are recasts of the original pieces made by Prop'er Effects which I made years ago, and I've made that known to Mike Moore if anyone cares enough to bring it up with him. I will add some simple electronics at a later date. Here are the main cast resin pieces cleaned up and primed. I did make another green acrylic screen though and the antennae is cast metal. The originals has some more length but I never had that piece to start with. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...nev-Pal001.jpg And the finished prop. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...OneVpal019.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...OneVpal018.jpg And alongside the later variant. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...OneVpal021.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...OneVpal022.jpg |
I made a temporary screen so it looks like it's doing something.

You've certainly got a talent for this sort of thing :sunny:

I've got some show and tell to catch up on now.
First off the completed SeaQuest pistol. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...nPistol008.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...nPistol009.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...nPistol011.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...nPistol014.jpg |
And now for the big project I was working for about eight months.
This is another Star Trek item and is the tricorder from "Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn" A very involved build needing plenty of modification and scratch building. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...K8Build245.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...K8Build246.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...K8Build244.jpg I added some 35% window tint to darken the screens. Looks much better. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...K8Build249.jpg A poor video of them all working. http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sir...ml?sort=3&o=32 How they open up and showing the LiIon rechargable battery that is meant for a Canon camcorder. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...K8Build259.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...K8Build260.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...K8Build261.jpg The lighting circuit is scratch build but the sound card is a modified BigDawg circuit. |
Cool! I know this sort of thing is much more involved and takes a lot longer than what I do, but the wait still seems so long and it is so nice to see them when they're done.

Long it is. I was hoping to be done about two months ago but I was given some good photos of the screen used one and had to modify several things about the main parts, plus there was something about the resin in half the handle parts and two of the black square pieces that prevented the paint from curing. This was not a surface oily spot but large areas mostly at the bottoms where the top of the mold is. I had to Dremel about an eighth of an inch of surface away and replace it with auto body filler to solve the problem. In total about 24 square inches worth of area. Not a common problem to say the least.

Amazing stuff :sunny:

Time for some catch up over the summers projects.
First up is a seldom used attachment to the STTNG MkVII Medical Tricorder. The casting came directly from Mike Moore and is from the same mold as screen used. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...nerHead022.jpg Here it is attached to the tricorder but upside down as it fits better to my MkVII. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...nerHead020.jpg Next is a replica of the Klingon Hand Disruptor used in the fourth Star Trek movie. As far as I know this is the only one ever made outside the movie that has the proper lighting, and switches, although the red rocker should have a clear red rocker. You can find similar switches but they are all narrower than wide now. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...orBuild094.jpg A video of the effects. http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sir...l?sort=3&o=407 Another that shows the emitter light. http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sir...l?sort=3&o=408 http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...orBuild098.jpg |
Next was three Cardassian Data Leeches from DS9. Two of these are production castings and one is a replica.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...icorder035.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...icorder034.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...icorder037.jpg Next was three replica Rura Penthe door keys used for the Undiscovered Country movie. There were two styles employed and the ones with the acrylic parts light. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...theKeys033.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...theKeys040.jpg Next came two ST:The Motion Picture wrist comms. These are pure replicas. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...mmBuild051.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...mmBuild045.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...mmBuild042.jpg Here's a bunch of the circuits I made for them and for the person who made the castings. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...mmBuild039.jpg |
Next was completing an unfinished Klingon Tricorder started by Richard Coyle.
At first I was going to make this a later variant than the STIII version but it had the impossible to find tiny Honda brake light lens with it that only the STIII version used so it became a screen accurate STIII. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...onStuff002.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...icorder017.jpg The circuit. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...icorder016.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...icorder023.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...sfshd0793a.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...icorder024.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...sfshd0814a.jpg And a video. http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sir...l?sort=3&o=270 |
So following that I made three First Contact rifles from Rodd.com kits with added phase modulator parts.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild001.jpg One of these gets the Rodd.com electronics and the other two I made up using some circuits boards meant for another prop plus added 750mW red lasers which are strong enough to melt plastic. They've got belt winders for the slings. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild002.jpg Lot's of fussy Dremel work. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild010.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild011.jpg The rifles have a ten segment bar graph as a power meter so I used one to make a lens for the display board which uses two rows. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild017.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild018.jpg What it does. http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sir...l?sort=3&o=230 |
Power buttons were created.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild041.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild042.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild043.jpg The switch board was broken up to fit. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild044.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild046.jpg And it all fit in like this. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild047.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild048.jpg The other switches were fitted. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild050.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild053.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild054.jpg And a closure to the control panel made up. It is held on by magnets. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...leBuild055.jpg |
