ACHTUNG ! PILOT ERROR
 

To all you Skippers who use the Kiel Pilot:- I don,t usually go through the canal because its busy and long also slow progress ,but this time I picked up the pilot at Cuxhaven about 1700 hours just goin dark. He did a magnificent job steering us all through the night avoiding the shipping ,and there was quite a lot. Until the following day at about 12.30 pm we came to the entrance, but in mid stream before we got to it was a small merchant hove to.The pilot sees this and drops down to 2 knots,and I,m on the bridge watching this cos he,s heading straight for it, thinking ...He,s gonna alter course in a minute......He,d better alter course in a minute.....GREAT SCOTT !!! He,s gonna hit it , so I order BACK FULL, TOOOOO Late ! BANG ! right on the ships Starboard bow. I,ve got damage due to Enemy action and I bet he,s made it worse. The only thing I can think why it happened was either he,d NODDED OFF with being awake all night or he,d been on the SCHAPPS. Many Moons ago he scraped the side of the dock entering the canal (Drunk again I,ll wager ) So to all ye Ancient Submariners ,keep an eye on that pilot, or you could end up at Gestapo Headquarters pending an inquiry ,And they,ve got ways of making you both talk......
