Reception at Foriegn Ports (Med & Indian Ocean)

Has anyone ever made a mod to have a reception committee at U-Boat bases in the Med or in the Indian Ocean?

Nothing as elaborate as the ones in France or Germany, maybe just a few officers and enlisted men standing and watching, perhaps an officer rendering a salute. Wouldn't even need any animation.

I think it would add something to the emersion thing.

It's so depressing pulling up to a empty dock.

Reception at Foriegn Ports

So...... I'll just take that as a No.

It's a shame really. Would really bring a little life to La Spezia, Salamis, Penang and Jakarta (I can't remember if Toulon has a reception committee, if it does it's with the band and the whole enchilada). You could even go with tropical uniforms since all these bases were in what the Wehrmacht/Kriegsmarine considered "tropical dress" areas.

Thanks to all who responded. :hmmm:

Some countries would not want to openly support the Nazis. So I can see the ports being empty. Sorry.

If it helps on Das Boot they had to sneak into the port!

Grey Wolf,

The committees for U-Boat departures and arrivals were strictly German affairs. Officers, enlisted men. bandsmen, nurses, civilians: all German. Oh maybe a local fascist Quisling Leader or Italian Naval officers (after all they were Allies), but otherwise no local civilians.

I haven't seen the latest Das Boat series (yet!) but do not judge historical events from modern movies. :salute:

I have a feeling that there's no welcome party in foreign ports because of a hard code in the game and that's why no one has made a mod.

All the best,

David I

Yes, but Spain was neutral. Japan and Italy did openly support the Nazis.

I was just being general about it. It doesn't bother me other countries don't throw confetti around when a u-boat shows up.

Yeah, but as the OP said, it would make sense to have a small welcoming committee from the local military.

Clarification

I was suggesting a Reception Committee at "overseas" active U-Boat bases only. Toulon, La Spezia, Salamis, Panang & Jakarta. All of these are at Axis Allied or Axis Occupied ports with U-Boat bases.

There are no U-Boat bases at Neutral Ports.

Slightly "Off Topic" but when I visited the French port of Brest a couple of years back on a Royal Navy Nuclear submarine we received a very frosty welcome from the French sailors and civilians alike.

It prevailed that the reason for this was during the early stages of WW2 the Royal Navy destroyed a large number of French Navy ships tied up alongside Brest in order to prevent them falling into the hands of the ensuing German invasion, bearing in mind these French vessels were fully manned at the time.

You could be right and I may have been misinformed at the time but I knew it had something to do with the Royal Navy sinking French ship, if that's true I stand corrected, every day is a school day for me :Kaleun_Salute:

Haha every day is a school day for all of us.

Can't remember if I scripted Mers el Kabir in GWX, pretty sure I did, well force H anyway. Were a bit short on French warships at the time Will check tomorrow

Reception - Modder Request

Well does anybody know who I might reach out to create a mod for this idea? Is Pascal still around?

Anyone else interested in carrying the torch forward on this?

Is there someone who can provide me with a name and contact info that I might approach personally?
