Veteran of SH5, but new to SHIII

First off, it's good to be back on this awesome forum. :Kaleun_Salute:

Second, I just got SHIII on steam and I'm looking for a good mod pack to enhance gameplay experience. Much like "The Wolves of steel" for SH5, if something like that exists in SHIII.

Any help will be rewarded with beers :Kaleun_Cheers:

Francis:D

Get Multish3 and try them all.

hunh?... grog grog... beers?... I'm awake!

Be sure and read some of THEBERBSTER's tutorial stuff for dealing with a Steam version of SH3. Do not install it in a "C:\Program Files..." folder, because Windows will restore some (not all) of the altered files. Like Jeff says: "MultiSH3"!

I'm testing GWX right now. The modpack works fine, but seems like any other addition via JGSME crashes the game no matter what.
I actually watched a video with a guy using tons of other mods to make the game visually amazing, but those mods are either gone or don't seem to work at all.
This is the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fswWrpUGN_I&t=1s

in WAC5.01 all these mods (and all the best) are included ^^

SH3 has a variety of choices of supermods, which allows people to choose their preferences. There are 4 big ones you should be aware of. (please note that I've only played one of them).

-NYGM (Not Your Grandmother's Mod) focuses on enhancing the challange and difficulty, while pushing aside graphic improvements.
-GWX (Grey Wolves eXpansion) strikes a balance between difficulty and graphics.
-LSH (Living Silent Hunter) tries to keep the atmosphere and feeling of the original game, while massivly improving the graphics.
-WAC (War Ace Campaign), the newest one on the forums. I don't actually know much about it, but it seems to try and merge the beauty of LSH with the challange of NYGM. Someone else will certainly be more detailed than me.

All of them add new ships.

The one I play is GWX. The thing I love the most about this mod is that it has atmosphere, plunging you into the grime of submarine warfare very effectively.
My advice is to do what I do not, and try them all. See which one you prefer.

That is a sign of either having SH3 in the Program Files folder (Windows restores a lot of the old files), or a bad folder structure of the mod (from the un-zip utility), or you've accidentally pulled in old save data from the User / Documents / SH3 folder and have a corrupt install. You might also be out of RAM for SH3. Did you use the 4Gig Patch or the LAA applet to open the SH3.exe file for more RAM access?

Also, do not mix mods. Do GWX by itself first, and make sure it works. Then add other stuff later (if at all)...

Thank everybody for the answers, seems like I've found solutions through testing (as always). First, I was missing the so called "4GB patch", which causes the game to crash on modern rigs.
Then, I found out some mods have old files that are no more compatible with new updates of other mods, hence the crashes.

I will keep updating the list. Will of course try the new Megamod,

I know all the supermods and wac50.1 is a very good choice ! for me the best choice at this moment.
you won't regret it ^^

Hey Krieg Francis! As you have already said a lot of those mods in that video are outdated. New iterations of the mods have come out! If you need help finding any of them let me know
I have been messing around with WAC, and most of the mods I have in that video seem to be in Wac! Haven't played too much WAC but from what I've seen it looks great!

Good Luck and Happy Hunting! :salute::salute::salute:

I'm trying to start a game with WAC 5.0 and 5.1 patch, at 90% loading the games just crashes. I have installed everything, including the 4gb patch...

Good to see you here as well haha :D

I'm currently having trouble running the mod itself, the game simply crashes :k_confused:
