8 km horizon for NYGM

Hi there, does any know if there is a 8 km horizon mod availible for NYGM. My video card is c**p (Nvidia FX 5200) and I can't justify getting a new card. Stock SH3 gives me around 20-23 FPS in exterior views which I can live with but with NYGM enabled its about 8 FPS. If no mod is availible can I simply edit some of the NYGM files such as scene.dat with S3D to give me back a 8km horizon or is it not that simple. Thankyou

Hello Stoker !

I have on my MediaFire Page a MOD with an 8km Atmosphere, here:

Test the MOD, maybe that's the one for you ?!

Best regards,
Magic

There's just one big problem.

All the visual detection ranges for NYGM are set for 16km horizon.

If you use an 8km horizon mod, you will be detected continually by other ships - even merchant ships - and aircraft before you see them.

Life will certainly become 'interesting' on your U-boat.

Stiebler.

Thanks for that Reece and Magic1111, have downloaded and will try both.

@Stiebler- what are my options? is there a official 8km mod for NYGM that makes the appropriate changes in regards to visual sensors so that you are not at a disadvantage. Regards

Stiebler is correct, I was assuming an 8k over existing 8k, you may have to adjust the following or replace with stock or another 8k version.
In the data\Cfg folder:
Contacts.cfg
Sensors.cfg
Sim.cfg
In the data\Library folder:
Sensors.dat
AI_Sensors.dat
This of course includes the Scene.dat & the 6 sky & sea Env files (part of my 8k mod), not sure if there are any others.:hmmm:
PS. Sorry if I'm stepping out of bounds here Stiebler.

I regret that there is not an 8 km horizon mod for NYGM.

There are no plans to make one, because the official release of SH5 is becoming close. When SH5 is released, it is very likely that all modders for SH3 will be asked by Ubisoft to stop supporting SH3. This is what happened to the 'Pacific Aces' team of SH2 when SH4 was released. Since Ubisoft owns the copyrights of the original games, they have every right to make this request.

If you wish to make your own changes, then Reece has listed the important files, above. Copy these files from the stock SH3 game (8 km horizon), and compare settings with the corresponding NYGM files. This will give you an idea as to how to proceed.

Please be aware that sensor settings for NYGM were originally set by the talented Observer, who was driven off this forum by the flame wars of long ago. I was only one of the testers. If you reset the sensors, you are going to need to carry out a LOT of testing. I think this is far too much effort for far too little return - but I'm a pessimist.

@Reece:
Thanks very much for your help, and no, you're not 'treading out of bounds'!

Stiebler.

@Reece- Thanks very much for the help and advice, it is much appreciated.

@Stiebler- Thanks also for you help, advice and honesty (damn my c**ppy videocard). Im only new to this game and comunity so i'm a little wet behind the ears so to speak. One point that you did make suprised me a little.

Considering the work that divingduck is doing with new animations it seems a real shame.
