AOD can’t save
 

During a career patrol I cannot save the game. It says “cannot write saved game file” and I am not in combat. Any thoughts here? Using dosbox of course...

It's been a long time since I've played AOD, but I don't think I ever tried to save it. Game play was so quick I usually (if not always) played an entire patrol in one sitting.

Sorry I couldn't help, but I wanted you to know someone who remembers the old games is reading the forums.

Tks Steve. I think it has something to do with dosbox settings...The game sometimes crashes hence my worries.

It depends what version of game you are playing, and wether your hard drive or game files are write-protected, in which case you cannot save.

In the Windows version, Command Aces of the Deep, you cannot save single missions. In career you should be able to save, check that all your gamefiles are not write-protected, chose all files & folders, right mouse click on them, and go in properties > the box 'write-protected' should be white.
Your savegame folder is located in SIM\SAVE. You want to specially check that these folders are not write-protected.


You save game with CTRL-O during game, and chosing the right tab in it. You can have up to 20 save slots, so maybe you must overwrite one.

Same in the DOS version with Dosbox: check that all game files are not write-protected.

No help, but I can save my dos AOD career fine running it in dosbox error free. Just like when I got it when it was released.
Unlike SH3, anytime, anywhere (except in direct combat) with no corruption.

Win 10 still does not allow to write on the folder. The write protected folder. Even running as admin it still does not let me save. It is a common issue. Still researching for a solution

The solution is likely this: Move the game files - the entire game folder - to any non-protected area, even on a stick if you want, and change the settings in Dosbox accordingly if you use the DOS version, or just make a shortcut to your desktop if you use the Windows version of the game (CAOD).
And: if you don't want to repeat this for any sort of other program in Win10, I recommend you to adjust your computer privileges on Win10 so you can act as administrator. I think you can change this in your account settings in your OS, but I'm not sure about this. Here is a helpful link:

This is funny - I've been playing AOD on Dosbox for close to 10 years (gosh) and just experienced this same "cannot write save file" error tonight.


I'm on Linux though and haven't figured it out yet...if you find a solution, please share!:Kaleun_Salute:

I moved the folder to c:\dos\aod then dosbox worked normally and the game accepted to write a savefile. It works now. :up::up::D
