Textbook

Hi everyone, i was wondering if anyone knew of any textbook about submarine warfare and tactics that we,mere civilians could buy? I'm looking for modern submarine warfare. I've done a search on the forum and i see a lot of info for WWii era, but what about today's tactics!

Thank you

A lot of today's tactics are closely guarded secrets however the nearest you will get is late cold war which tactics are still used today for example the Bastion concept is still used by the Russian navy, but equally a lot of the older tactics that date back to the wars are also still used.

Probably a book with good overview is this one published around 1986ish its called Modern Naval Combat by David and Chris Miller ISBN: 0 86101 231 3
(i don't think they even still print it)

Another one but this one focuses on the platforms rather than tactics is Chris Chant Submarine warfare today published around 2005 ISBN 1 84509 158 2

Any particular navy you are looking for ? or any specific operation ?

Hope this helps

No nothing specifict! Just trying to learn!

Fair enough if you wish to learn every navy has different tactics and different ways of command the difference between the USN and RN are huge but you wont find their tactics in a book i'm afraid not one on the market anyways.

I know you wanted general information perhaps start with finding out about a specific countries tactics and then assessing a counter tactic and its employment

Probably some people you may wish to look up those studies and writings would be

Rear admiral Chris Parry RN
Captain Igor Kurdin Russian navy
Norman Friedman US analyst
Norman Polmar US analyst
Professor Eric Grove
Professor Andrew Lambert
