• a PC that works !
• TeamSpeak and headset or speakers and microphone will do
• SH3 v1.4b + GWX gold + our own Campaign files
• 18+ (even older, we don't mind!)

Hi there THEBERBSTER
The Steel Sharks Campaign I would not call it a mega mod as such Graphically
all that has changed is the Uboat pens Alfred Keitzer as done a wonderfull job moving the Uboat Pens of Lorient further up the coast
the Campaign files are as follows

GWX3 all the random convoys removed from the Rnd Layer and some single shipping added all convoys now added to the Scr Layer

September 1939 - June 1943

LND 977kbs

RND 6050kbs

SCR 17,615kbs

Messages.en 180kbs

Work progressing on June 1943 - May 1945 Campaign file

The Steel Sharks Campaign may not be 100% Accurate due to constraints of SH3/GWX3 as some nations dont have large ships in there merchant fleets rosters also in the later war years a convoy of 70 plus merchants with 20-26 escorts would be suicide mission for any Uboat/player attacking it so its a trade off so i scale the convoy and escorts down a tad
Convoy HX-248 87 Merchants 19 Escorts would be scaled down to 72 Merchants and 14 Escorts 6 rowns of 12 Merchants with 10 Escorts around the perimeter of the Convoy and 4 escorts inside the Convoy
Convoy Merchant ship spacing would be 1200-1300 meters front escorts 3500 4500 meters from convoy side escorts 1500 2500 meters away
rear escorts 1500 3000 meters away
as the war progresses newer escorts come online in our Campaign
Q&R Class Escorts S&T Class Captain Class
Hunter Killer Groups some with escort carriers also air patrols
in early war years Avro Ansons Hudsons whitleys later in the war liberators
PBY Catalinas PB4Y-1 liberators wellingtons sunderlands Halifax's
The radio messages in the campaign help you find convoys with convoys sightings in game radio reports from U-408 Helmut Dobinski to 2nd Flt FC Shadowing Large inbound convoy in Grid AM1956 heading 108° at 7knts U-408 Helmut Dobinski Sends gives the player aheads ups on convoys that may be near to him and also gives the Campaign more depth

Blackswan, really want to try a campaign with the larger, more historical sized convoys, etc.

But since you state all the convoys have been taken out of the random file and put into the scripted file;

- does this mean there are no convoys outside of where you scripted them ? I.e., I was given a patrol sector in the southern edge of the BE grid. Nothing for a month and a half.

Bad luck, or the result of no random convoys anymore ?

- should one only patrol in the Western Approaches ?

Hi John inbound are you using the September-1939 May -1943 Campaign or the May 1943 - may 1945 Campaign.
SL HG Convoys should be passing BE Grids comming up from Gibraltar and Freetown and outbound Convoys heading for Gibraltar the ingame radio messages are actual convoy sightings.
Screenie below of main Convoy routes within Steel sharks September 1939 May 1943 Campaign the convoys are out there you just go to find em
early war theres Convoys from Southampton to East coast Scottish Ports
also Convoys to and from Iceland didnt put much in the Mediterranean
but if you like i can add some random Convoys in the Med For you John

Sorry, yes, was using the early war file. No problem, I just wanted to make sure I understood things right.

For some reason I didn't think anything but the Western Approaches convoys were in the file.

Thanks for clearing things up ! Looking forward to larger convoys assuming my pc can handle it.

Another question, am I correct in assuming these were made with multiplayer in mind ?

I can see a wolfpack of online players being needed to deal with all the escorts vs. a solo attack.

If I play the files solo and use Hsie's patch, will the wolf pack mod in it work with these files for solo play ?

I don't see why not, but figured I'd make sure before trying.

Runing the Campaign on your PC I could run it on a 2.2 ghz Laptop with 8gig ram and intel 3000 graphics and it played ok when i was on holiday or outa town .

Hi John have not tried the wolfpack mod at the steel sharks we just used to find the Convoy in single player mode.
When 3-6 players found that convoy i would then write the Multiplayer mission with 3-6 uboat player slots and exact same convoy details would be used same merchants same loadouts same crew experiance same ship positions and like wise for escorts.
To see if the SCR leyer is working run the mission editor and see if the convoys are crossing the Atlantic

I used the mission editor to track convoys to the Rockall Banks area or passing through the CE grids on the Gibraltar and Freetown runs then i would make notes of what that Convoy was and the date and time it reached that area.

On the arctic Convoys id used distance references eg Convoy spotted by longrange German aircraft 185km due south of Bear Island.

back in the day when we had 50 members there would be 4-6 Human wolfpacks with 3-6 Uboats in Rockall Banks Area AM01-AM18 AL63 AM41 2nd group in CF27 CF55 CF 91 3rd Group DT59 DT51 DT28

Some weeks i would be writing six Multiplayer Convoy Missions as well as updating Campaign adding another 50-75 Convoys and squaring away new members.
If a six player Wolfpack could not be all available on the same Evening for say 2 weeks then 3/4 players would meet up attack the Convoy then i would take out the sunk ships and send edited mission to two other players they would do their attack i would remove the ships they sunk then send it to the last player and he would do a lone wolf attack.
