USS Cowpens (CG-63) C.O. Fired
 

Fairly recent and high-profile news about the commanding officer of a Ticonderoga-class cruiser, the USS Cowpens (CG-63) who was fired for physically attacking people, and being incompetent in general. This story has gained quite some attention across the country.

Here is a rap sheet, if you will.

1. Running over and killing a whale(s) with the ship.
2. Physically attacking junior officers, division officers, department heads, enlisted sailors, and foreign military personnel.
3. Choking a visting British Royal Navy officer and dragging him across a ladderwell, shouting obscenities at him.
4. Insulting an Australian military officer(s) during a port visit(s).
5. Throwing objects at people, such as headsets, clipboards, and coffee mugs.
6. Numerous violations of protocols, operational security, and Navy regulations.
7. Almost getting shot and killed by sentries for violating afforementioned regulations.
8. Having a high speed "drag race" with another Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, almost crashing into it amidships and refusing to sound the collision alarm.
9. Getting drunk at softball games and driving thereafter.

This case has garnered national and even international attention; becoming a high profile incident. Strangely enough, this Captain is still in the Navy, being assigned to another billet and command.
