[TEC] How to Fix Mod Soup Issues

these are the steps you need to take if you think you have mod soup issues corrupting your game.

mod soup is when files are modded or changed in some way while mods are still installed in the game. doing this has the effect of causing them to no longer be recognised by jsgme so the game is corrupted by having these unrecognised "modded" files left behind after a mod has been uninstalled.

mod soup repair method:

step 1
uninstall all your game mods with jsgme

step 2
move the "MODS" folder found in your games main directory folder
to your desktop so it is no longer there (or just delete it if you dont need the mod files there)

step 3
run jsgme in order to create a brand new "MODS" folder in your games main directory folder

step 4
now replace your mods in jsgme by opening the "MODS" folder you moved to your desktop and moving the mod folders one at a time from the desktops "MODS" folder into the new "MODS" folder you just created in your games main directory folder.

do not try a "move all" thing or you will move the corrupted backup files too so moving the mod folders one at a time avoids any chance of moving the corrupted "hidden" backup files along with them.

and you are done

Good stuff Webster.
I didn't know about the hidden files.
That may have saved me a reinstall in the past.
Thanks for the info

I am trying to run the Trigger Maru mod. When I launch the game, it crashes at startup screen with the red bar having completed 3/4 of its run. I tried to solve it by using the method above, but it doesn't help in my case.

I have SH4 v. 1.5 with the U-boat add on.

I am trying to run TMO_Overhaul_2 and TMO_update_20_to_22

I am running Windows 7, and stock game works without problems.

Any suggestions?

Just an idea, but in your mods folder where TMO is located, is the directory structure correct? I.E , you have the /mods/TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2/Data & Documentation folders there? I had the problem of mods/TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2/TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2/Data & Documentation, which didnt work when I installed the mod.

Just an idea. Also, are there any other mods installed? Other options are to uninstall game, reinstall and re-add mods making sure dir. structure is correct.

You are absolutely right, sparrs. The double-folder caused the issue. I solved it, and everything seems to work perfect now.

Next time I will pay more attention on how the mod files are unzipped into the directory. :yep:

Thanks to sparrs for his quick response and thanks to all of you modding guys out there for giving us a wonderful game experience!

On SH5 Mods there is a SH5 Validator which does SH 3,5, it validates your mods in JGSME as installed correctly or 'not existing' It installs via JGSME and is extremely easy to use
