Sadly it will be a ton of work. But worth it! If that slide out TDC could be used from the radar station, that would be amazing, but I'm afraid you can only link it to the periscope station interface, not to the main bar. Quote:
If you do a new hull it should suffice to merge it with the rest of the existing Narwhal. I'll arrange the permissions thing, as the subsim narwhal is already a bit dated and a new one would make it useless anyway :yep: |

Guys, Hitman has forgotten more than I will ever know regarding the game. It's some of his work that prompted me to make the changes I did to the Radar in OTC. Modding takes an idea.....someone taking a few steps towards making the idea a reality.....then others coming along and making changes to it....all with the hope of making something better, more useful. My hat's off to you!! Yes, what you've described is what I'm going to try. KiUB is a big influence for the project......with a different look. Your right about the Radar screen compared to the Attack Periscope screen.....two different animals there. One 3D modeled, the other 2D with completely different components.....capabilities. Since no one has ventured into making game engine changes, were stuck with what's been given us. ========== Longknife, I'm interested in whatever you come up with!! I'm guessing les_green01 would too! |

Any other ideas for messages? |
Quote:
For example: 1942 - Comedian Joe E. Brown entertains troop at bases in Alaska and the Aleutians. 1942 - Actress Carole Lombard, wife of actor Clark Gable, dies at the age of 33 in an aircraft crash on Mount Potosi, Nevada while returning from a War Bond tour. 1943 - Actress/Pinup Betty Grable marries trumpeter Harry James. I'll start compiling a list with exact dates if it sounds like a good idea. |
About the radio messages, maybe radio messages could be added concerning enemy attack/capture of ports/towns. It seems we get no inkling of when this happens, beyond the color changing on the map. In fact, any war news or reports would be good. |
Hey guys, I have a small idea, I don't like the three battleship wrecks in Pearl, I think they should either be removed entirely or removed after a certain amount of time after Pearl Harbour, or redone.

I'm sure there are other sites. Code:
Dec 1941 - - . . . Japan Sweeps . . . Wow, they actually have a day-by-reports for the entire war! For example, June 1942 http://www.ww2pacific.com/42june.html Code:
JUNE 1942 |

Looks like there are other ideas coming from players too. Thanks guys! =============== Quote:
However, you should note, the damage done to Battle Ship Row was never completely cleaned up. Especially during the war. The Oklahoma is the BB capsized during the attack. She wasn't righted until November 1943, yet never used for the remainder of the war. I don't know where they put her, but it wasn't until 1947 did the Navy think they could tow her back to the mainland. It was during that tow she capsized again and sunk...this time for good. Of course the Arizona was never moved. So, to remove all the damaged ships in Pearl would not be the thing to do. The more I think about it, especially on this Memorial Day, I'm likely to leave the Harbor just as it is after December 7th. Good Memorial Day to you all!! |
Thxs for the warm welcome Scurvy :salute:

Nisgeis worked on a completely interactive and clickable 3D TDC and an amazing radar mod, the first was not completely finished and the second was released but never incorporated to any major supermod, probably because you had to do again all the 3d editing and improving that had been included over the years in the models. You should contact him regarding that 3D TDC, could solve several problems in an easy and realistic way. EDIT: Here you go: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=170944 |

I'm very enthusiastic about this mod Cpt. Scurvy! I'm more interested in the realism aspect of it though. I've used RFB since it's beginning, along with RSRD and assorted enhancement mods. Unfortunately as I'm sure you're aware, work on RFB has all but ceased, and has become a bit stale. I'm in the market for something new, and this may be it! I'm not too keen on mods that alter reality for the sake of more challenging gameplay. I hope folks don't take that the wrong way, it's just me. I hope your mod will have enough realism ( as much as could be expected from a computer sim) to keep the "hard core guys" interested. Good luck with your project!

Well, so do I. Realism.....Gameplay Realism.....Gameplay That's the balance which makes any simulation worth playing. As a "gamer" (I've been one since playing my first Avalon Hill board game at age 11), I know there has to be a balance between the two. For instance, a player wants realism.....yet no game, or mod, has us traveling in real time to our patrol point. Time compression is a must, because who wants to spend a week's worth of real time getting to your assigned area? But, the truth is.....that is REALISTIC!! What one person see's as realism, another see's it as folly. The best game should have content for both sides, allowing for several ways to play, depending on the player to choose his realism level. Some mods have restricted navigation aids, or removed specific elements of the game for the sake of "realism". However, I see no reason to do this IF the stock game has an option setting that allows you to remove it when you want. I don't think a mod should remove game play features just for the sake of "realism"......yet they allow Time Compression to exist?!? I'm all for realism, but not at the adverse effect to gameplay. I don't know how many of you have run across the U.S. Naval Technical Mission report of Japan's scientific and technological developments during the war? It's interesting to learn some of the findings we made after the war. Frankly, some aspects of their development are quite surprising. The general rule being.....we gave them too much credit for their technology!! I'll balance gameplay and realism based on readings like these. |
Capn and all,
Any way to remotely replicate the SH5 "Real Nav" mod in SH4? Is there a way to toggle on and off your own-sub's position in-game. (I'm thinking: leave it off except for "taking a fix" (by turning it back on) every two hours or so (or when needed)) to replicate a bit of uncertainty whilst navigating. What about navigational bouys in and around ports? (Red right returning...) Anyone interested in this? |
Quote:
One thing that I'm hoping for is more harbor traffic, the original sh4 didn't have a lot of traffic. Another thing would be more defenses around big jap ports like Hiroshima and by defense I mean sup nets around capital ships and mines at the port entrances. |
Looking forward to this Scurvy!
At your disposition for beta tester. Best regards. Fitzcarraldo :salute: |
