OK, got it. I'll install next time I get to port. This must have been one of those "Ugly Bugs" you mentioned earlier.

A good time for the above RTB message would be when the boat runs out of torpedoes. First time I've gotten this one, but I still had 13 torpedoes onboard. Does RSRD take remaining torpedoes into account when sending messages?

These are the values it's suppose to work off of:

EvaluationReason=StatusReport
AllMatch=PrimaryObjCompleted
PartialMatch=
PartialMatchingMinimumPercentage=
MinimumFuelPercentage=25
MinimumAmmoPercentage=10

Not that it's suppose to be at 10% ammo or 25 percent fuel to trigger

Scuse me, long-gone-returning-member question here: I do have to apply patch 3 after the main one, yes? (Using the TM friendly version here... and since I put RSRD after about an hour's play my colours get all funky and the puter locks up).

Yes you must add patch3 after the main one.

Saintaw 02-21-08 03:09 AM

Thanks for the confirmation Lurker :)

Disregard my previous comment about crash: Had changed my resolution to 1024/768:75hz with FSAA... I *think* my 8600 didn't like that and was heating up... I'm back at 1280/1024:60hz without AA.... runs fine now.

Sounds to me as though your GFX card is on its way out as I doubt that RSRD has anything to do with it.

MRV 02-21-08 02:12 PM

Am I doing something wrong here?

Using TM and the TM version of the campaign, Im lucky to find one enemy merchant ship in one patrol in the asiatic fleet area, if any..... Getting radio reports all the time.....Heavy IJN here, Invasion there...but for some reason I'm dead alone out there only encountering convoys of neutral fishing boats. :huh:

Sailor Steve 02-21-08 04:34 PM

Sounds like that darned "realism" bug again.

After several days of fruitless hunting in the Gilbert-Marshalls area, I decided to head for the barn with 13 fish remaining and only 14K chalked up for tonnage. All the way back to Midway, I would get the 'Message briefing' message followed up by the 'RTB AT YOUR DESCRETION' message a few minutes later, EVERYTIME I sent in a status report. Most annoying, but I finally made it to Midway, docked, awarded promotions and medals, adjusted the crew, and installed Surface Search RADAR. I then started my next patrol (to the Volcano Islands), then left the game, installed Patch 3, and re-started the game at the OnLeavingPort.Save.

I sure hope that smashed that Ugly Bug!

I just have been waiting for someone to say that. :lol:

Realism is one thing, waiting for 8 weeks ingame in straits like between borneo and celebes without seeing a single ship is another thing. ;)

Maybe just unlucky? With careers out of Brisbane or Fremantle, I always run into at least 2 or 3 targets in choke points before I even get close to my patrol area with RSRD.

I know. My problem is I feel just the opposite. I spent years of complaining about AOD and SHCE's abundance of targets; far more than any real captain ever dreamed of. I've actually come to enjoy the frustration and the boredom of dead patrols. Not that I'd do them in real time, but still...:sunny:

:rotfl:

Only 14K tons. What a shame.

Randomly selected "Career" records of very successful submarines:

Nautilus 11 patrols 22 ships sunk 70,000 tons

Tang 5 patrols 24 ships sunk 93,000 tons

Wahoo 7 patrols 20 ships sunk 60,000 tons

.....so....Even these Subs averaged less than 14,000 per patrol.

However, across the fleet of subs, only a miniscule number could claim even a single patrol of sunk tonnage of 14,000. At this site http://www.pigboats.com/ww2/ww2sinkings.html you'll find ALL the career totals....Career totals over several/many patrols each. For example:

USS Paddle 18,798 tons 5 Ships
USS Pampanito 27,332 tons 5 Ships
USS Parche 31,696 tons 8 Ships
USS Pargo 27,983 tons 9 Ships
USS Permit 5,741 tons 3 Ships
USS Peto 29,139 tons 7 Ships
USS Pickerel 6,472 tons 4 Ships
USS Picuda 49,539 tons 12 Ships
USS Pike 2,022 tons 1 Ship
USS Pintado 42,956 tons 8 Ships
USS Pipefish 1,818 tons 2 Ships
USS Piranha 12,277 tons 2 Ships
USS Plaice 2,943 tons 4 Ships
USS Plunger 48,328 tons 12 Ships
USS Pogy 62,633 tons 16 Ships
USS Pollack 30,278 tons 11 Ships
USS Pomfret 20,936 tons 4 Ships
USS Pompano SS 181 21,443 tons 5 Ships
USS Pompon SS 267 8,772 tons 3 Ships
USS Porpoise SS 172 9,741 tons 3 Ships
USS Puffer SS 268 36,392 tons 8 Ships

While frustrating to sail a 'scoreless' SH4 patrol, it still gives some satisfaction and immersion into the Submarine war....and, when you do finally have a patrol which by luck or skill results in intense combat action, it is exciting to the nth degeree...enthralling...invigorating...thrilling.. .and ultimately Extremely rewarding.

Similarly, in Flight-Simming there are many folks who only want to go out and become an Instant Ace in a single 20-minute dog-fighting sortie, destroying 5 or 6 or 8 or 9 enemy aircraft. BUT, many others are satisfied with just "surviving" an assigned sortie/mission, and going on to survive many sorties/missions of various types, where getting a "kill" is a rarity and a "treat". To those Simmers, becoming an "Ace" during a flight sim Career is an achievement and very satisfying....especially when playing such a career in the "Dead-is-Dead" mode (NO Replays Allowed...you get shot down/killed, and your Career is OVER).

Exactly! Do you notice how aggressive you become when you do spot that ship after days of patrolling? Now you know why the real guys were so aggressive!!!! After days of fruitless searching....anything spotted within range is going down.
