DCS Maybe?

So I been thinkin' lately... :hmm2:

I popped on over to the DCS Website to look at the sysreqs of DCS World since it is free...

I've got a bad GPU, but some RAM....and if needed...some RAM Upgrade slots.

Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500 @ 2.30GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 4028MB RAM
Card name: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
Display Memory: 1695 MB
Dedicated Memory: 64 MB
Shared Memory: 1631 MB
Native Mode: 1366 x 768

IL-2 1946's reqs are less demanding...but I'm wondering if what I have above isn't good enough could I just get some RAM and upgrade a bit?

I doubt you can get any decent FPS off of DCS with that GPU, the minimum is
listed as 512MB, yours is 64MB IIRC.

And no, more RAM wouldn't help.

That's what I was thinking...It was worth asking about though. DCS looks like a wonderful game. I was told somewhere that upgrading my RAM would help my GPU. I can run games that need 256 mb GPU like Battlefield Vietnam...

...and I can run the first ArmA on lower detail.

DCS is a wee bit demanding really.

Game? :o

A game would forgive your errors, respawn you and a few seconds later you'd be on your way.

A game would not require ten minutes to start the damn thing up, or about six hours to learn the controls to start the damn thing up. :03:

Yeah, the short answer for now is "don't bother". Especially since it's a massive download and would take you forever, and not even run at all.

DCS is very demanding, several times more so than IL-2. I wouldn't trust the minimum or even the recommended requirements on that thing.

Thanks once again guys for telling me what I expected. :03:

My laptop is a POS when it comes to gaming. :shifty:

I will play DCS one of these days and when I do it'll be glorious.

Maybe get a smaller car and a bigger PC. :hmmm:

You don't need a 'Stang. You want, you would like, but you don't need.

I love IL-2 1946....I love 2005 or 1970 'Stangs.

What i'd really like is to save $2500 and buy the FN FS2000 I saw at the sporting goods store the other day. That was one of the coolest things I've ever held. :03:

Since you play IL-2 "only", one reminder of what it means to jump from that to DCS.
IL-2 is a game, and you are done after reading 5 minutes at best, not counting to set
up your keyboard commands. DCS, every title of theirs, apparently, means in-depth study
sims - and you need to treat them like that if you want to get the best out of them.
That means: you will need to spend hours with reading.

I have folders like that for DCS. Maybe not quite as thick though. The folders, not me. :D

The wife hates that they take up so much room.

Maybe, but those ^ are mine. :arrgh!: Keep your hands off my books...!

Herr-Berbunch 05-15-13 07:15 AM

Maybe it'd help if I read them once in a while. :hmmm:

I haven't played A-10C since some patch a while ago (before P-51), and I haven't played DCS full stop since just after I got P-51 (and some fantastic skins).

That is too long ago.
