TWoS and enemy AI

Hi mate hi have a question :

What is the "enemy visual range" of the merchant and which of the DD and Warship in TwOS?
I ask this because since the beginning of the war the Minelayer (for example)seems to have "the eagle's eye"
He sees you from a sidereal distance.
They also shoot like snipers ..
In crew they are perhaps the Olympic team of shooting sports!?
I forgot the completely burning minelayer chased me like an F1 car
here last picture before the "game over"

a) Exact answer:
[erased]

b) Player answer:
By watching some videos, my understanding is that you are visually spotted from within 8 km, unless the weather is bad (foggy, low light) or the sea is rough in which case assume you are not yet spotted at that distance, but you are going to be if you get much closer. You may even intercept enemy's radio message about a detection, but don't count on that :)
At night you must have the moon in your back (or is it in front?) or you will get spotted more quickly.

I think in all cases there is some randomness involved.

Thank you so much xenonsurf :salute:
I believe you're right

1) I think I was about 5-6 km from the enemy ship
2) The moonlight can not remember ... and maybe you're right here too

so 1 error + 1 error = a big problem

There is the question of the sniper crew still
we are at the beginning of the war and their ability is already at a high level
I can not imagine how they will be year after year

The ability of your crew at campaign start should NOT be high, which also means your whole sub systems and, in your case the crew's ability to spot far away targets, all these should be reduced. If you click 'I' and go to the crew window you should generally read something like '56% trained...' meaning there is a lot of room for them to improve. You improve them by earning points with good performances and accomplishing your missions right. It's then important that you distribute these points (whithin the same crew window), this doesn't go automatically.

If instead you mean the enemy's ability to spot you, well, it's most likely as in real-life: persons have different sensual abilities to observe. I think the game code does model that. So you may get lucky to be unspotted at short range, but for your sake just assume it's not going to happen...One method is to only leave your periscope out for short times (at low speed, or its trail becomes visible!), use it in intervalls. And of course the enemy will always spot you after you spot him, that's obvious, but you can get closer if you present the right aspect to the enemy, which is you are facing it at right angle and low speed so your trail is less visible. A cautious calculation is :

You are spotted at 1x critical distance with full broadside, 2/3 critical distance with right angle to enemy.

Cheers,

What do you mean by more "weak" hauangua ? :hmm2: Less skilled?

If yes, then you can open Danzing campaign layer in mission editor, edit units skills and restart campaign in order to apply new changes...
