Hello fellow U-Boot Kaleu,

on the occasion of S3F's second anniversary yesterday and the upcoming fourth anniversary of the Doenitz Elite Flotilla in 3 days, I would like to invite you to another new project which integrates the efforts of the following already existing tools and addons for SH3. It is really true: An eleven-year-old-game is taken to another level.

Following are a brief description, a change-log, a number of explanations what the tools in question already do accompanied with screenshots so that everybody can have a quick overview. I have therefore reworked this thread in 08/2016 and will update it further as we progress.

I have been told by incoming feedback that this is UNIQUE for SH3 and no other simulation has ever offered so much. Not even remotely. So enjoy this old game, there is still plenty of life in that old dog!

What if we could join the efforts of the described programs...

What if a player could choose one of his multiple installations using the dynamic menu that S3F provides (#4),
configure that to his taste, then play it and then...

+ see his reported U-Boot-position on a world-map with Operation Spinnennetz (#7)
+ see his reported contacts and the see other U-Boote there as well
+ send and receive TRUE radio-stuff using Radio-Traffic-Exchange (#6)
+ have his Kriegstagebuch (KTB) done with S3C (#9)
+ have his results reported to a result-server as with Kampfbericht ( #5)
+ have his results accounted like in a flotilla-Point-Table

And then his forthcoming career is altered dynamically with S3DC (#8) and the very next patrol is started with the fixes and options provided with S3P ( #10).

What would this be?

- 20160129 - NEW - Created this thread and described the basic idea.
- 20160223 - NEW - Published a very first screenshot of S3Q (of V0.1a).
- 20160224 - NEW - Published details on what S3Q does so far (=completed code):
  • is called from S3F, so it gets the path of the selected SH3-installation (multish3-capable!)
  • from there it reads the FM.DLL to address the campaign-data as the upcoming S3F-version does (same code).
  • it lets the user select which of his campaigns PERTAINING to the just selected SH3-installation he wishes to report on
  • it reads from there (and lets the user change):
  1. Kommandant
  2. U-Boot + Type
  3. KM PQ
  • It then continues with the requests necessary to send to the S3O-Server at |DEF|, i.e. current course etc.
  • Then the above menu lets the user make 3 different reports:
  1. WEATHER-report
  2. STATUS-report
  3. CONTACT-report
  • When choosing, certain dependencies are checked.
  • After selecting all the user wishes, the report is written to disk
    and text-boxes give the opportunity to change texts

- 20160310 - NEW - calculations for regular and irregular PQ completed.
- 20160314 - NEW - The PQ of the last/current patrol is now extracted from the data saved to "My Documents".
This PQ taken from SH3-data consists of 2 letters and 2 digits. If the user provides no more details, then he can now pick the SUB-PQ to provide a more detailed location:
- 20160314 - NEW - The code-modules for the STATUS-REPORT are now complete including a "boat-protection"-routine and the activity-details.
- 20160401 - NEW - New functions in the main-report-module include code that reads the ingame-date and lets user amend it.
- 20160403 - ...constructed the first contact-report with the RECODED-CONTACT-MODULE!
- 20160407 - S3OADM(part of the S3O-project, but connected to this here) now works for reports of STATUS and CONTACTS.
- 20160409 - NEW: S3Q now extracts the HullIntegrity from the game files and adds that value as part of a STATUS-report.
- 20160515 - CHANGED: After one month of stable testing-results, S3OADM now runs on our Dutch affiliate-server for |DEF|.
- 20160531 - NEW: Our new QPFR-module has been completed over the weekend and is now in the test. See here.
- 20160615 - After two weeks of testing our new QPFR-module has been deemed reliable.
- 20160626 - NEW: Our new QMPR-module has been completed over the weekend and is now in the test. See here.
- 20160715 - After three weeks of testing our new QMPR-module has been deemed reliable.

  • lets you enter all needed data in appropriate format
  • lets you choose a nice looking signature
  • generates a data-file compatible to our userdatabase
  • transmits this application-file to our server
  • NEW! Now lets user join CP and displays Campaign-Info

[02] DEFO
  • can be used by ANYBODY
  • lets you select the usergroup to watch
    |DEF| - all active members of "Doenitz Elite Flotilla"
    |WAC| - the War Ace Campaigners who develop "War Ace Campaign Version 5.0"
    SS - our friends in "Steel Sharks"
  • shows who of that selected group is online
  • updates that information every 10 minutes or when you do it manually
  • lets you quick-connect to the user's profile

QMPR is to be used for every "Wolfsrudel"-report and now...
  • submits your results-screenshot to our DEF-server
  • lets you enter/amend the results for each user
  • generates a data-file compatible to our userdatabase

[07] APTG...
  • reads the SP-results provided by our module "QPFR"
  • reads the MP-results provided by our module "QMPR"
  • applies the formulas that we also used before
  • generates a RESULTS-FILE
  • writes these results to .HTML
  • and sends the updated point table to our website for public view

[08] ASIG...
  • reads userdata, section SiG
  • reads the 5 highest medals and writes them to the signature that the player chose using DAPP

  • checks for working connection and current version
    • if not: informs user, ends program

PRO: is a WORKING idea for transmitting and evaluating results
PRO: OCR-detects the results from the ingame-screenshot and sends this data with remarks that the reporting player can add to the report-server.
CON: is no longer continued
CON: only works for one dedicated .org server
CON: its author does not answer mails nor share knowledge

NOTE: KAMPFBERICHT has been successfully replaced by two tools: QPFR (for SP-reports) and QMPR (for MP-reports) - used exclusively by |DEF|.

PRO: is a WORKING idea for showing the position of players and contacts for immersion.
PRO: IS NOW online for public use again.
PRO: is actively continued work.
CON: does not yet integrate with the other tools, but the recode will take care of that bit by bit.

+ SH3 Patrol Log Editor plug-in (which is included in S3C V3.2)

Widely known through all the past 11 years, Silent Hunter III-Commander is one of the most useful addons ever released for SH3, with a great many underestimated options.

PRO: is much more than just a KTB & Campaign-editor.
PRO: can activate/deactive mods by date and add so much for immersion
CON: is no longer continued.

S3P = Silent Hunter III - Patrol (by Stiebler) released as part of NYGM since V2.5 - Discussion-Thread - Download-Link

PRO: generates sensible random patrol zones, a WORKING fix for the "NULL"-grid-issue and more.
PRO: does not replace S3C, will sometimes provide solutions in circumstances where SH3Commander fails.
