109

Well i havent been flying Il2 for a long time but i decided to try a mission in a 109. Wow was that fun! I thoughtit was a bit twitchy in normal flight but it was awesome in a dogfight. Sur eit was agains AI and a lesser plane at that but i had a blast! I may have to giver her a go again soon! Ive been flying the p47 and it seemed much more stable(=safer) to me.

The 109 is abit twitchy, but all around a very good plane. That's the only thing I pretty much fly nowadays.

I was gonna wait awhile before flying her because i had heard it was a handful. Well better start the learning curve now rather than later. It was alot of fun in the dogfight!

Once you have tasted the "dark side" you'll never be truly happy going back!
I personally find it much MUCH harder to stall a 109 compared to a Spitfire, Yak or p40 :hmm:

Have to agree with this. Or then it is as I fly the plane completely differently compared to others, but I tend to stall the Spit/Hurri/P40/insert any other plane here, more often nowadays. And the 109 can recover easily, you can drag your speed all the way down to 30-40km/h with flaps full open and the plane usually just flips over to point the ground instead of going to a spin.

It also depends a lot on the type of fight you prefer. I myself like to do inverted loops and fight in the vertical dimension, instead of going in a horizontal turn-style fight (Where Spits and Hurricanes rule) and the BF109 is a great plane for that, because of the powerful engine and high manouverability near the stall point at the top of the loop. If you are silly enough to accept another stule of fight against a slower but more maneuverable plane, however, you might get screwed fast. :stare:

Just sad that IL2 doesnt model the turbulence when you are flying on someone's six, neither does it model the stalling point that well when it comes to shakiness of the plane. You can shoot very accurately in IL2, even if your plane is nearing the stall point. From what I've read, the planes shakes 'violently' when near stalling point.

This is where BoB II shines, it is alot harder to hit something, just as Mike Spick says in the book 'Luftwaffe Fighter Aces': (out of memory) Most pilots engaged to a turn-fight came out with no kills and their guns empty. Mainly because you had a window of 2-5 seconds where you could let off your shot and hit something.

This is one of the biggest things I want to see changed in BoB:SoW. I know it will have dynamic winds modeled, but pleeeease, we need turbulence too! :-?

I have found that i cannot fly very fast tho. I can get mid-high 300's level flight. When i auto pilot and it catches up the the rest of the group, im then level flying in the 400's. this has to do with prop pitch and such i guess? im not too versed in that as of yet....

Prop pitch is dependant of the plane, for some you get boost, some only give .5-1km/h more, so it isnt that. I know for a fact that 109G2 can go ~490km/h on a VERY shallow dive, so on level flight it would be ~460-470km/h. This was at ~1500m.

IIRC, the performance goes up until 5000m, then it starts to degrade.

well more flying to figure it out!!!:D
