Alternatives to a Subsim app
Apps are not nessesarily the best option, so maybe theres options...
1) Tapatalk Tons of the traffic goes to the forums and vBulletin supports Tapatalk, which is a great app for forums. 2) Mobile version of Subsim A cleaner version of Subsim, where the news is just a list of news topics A link to the forums |
Or maybe even some subtle interface changes to the existing site.
1) move reply/quote away from the report button. Make those buttons bigger. 2) make page selection buttons bigger. 3) better stability in mobile browsers. The reply screen frequently crashes my iOS 5.x. These may not even be an app, but just a selectable skin. A separate mobile site with identical content would be my second choice. |

I don't know about VBulletin but for PHPBB you could get some free plugins that would detect the browser string of a device and if it was a mobile browser would present a different stylesheet for them, so you can have a more mobile-friendly appearance to the forums.

Well, something has to be done. Windows 8 is on the way and it turns all PCs into cell phones, with the same limitations as they have. Personally if I wanted to surf the Internet with a cell phone I'd just do so. I own a computer for the extra capabilities that will be taken away from us with Windows 8.
But a solution that works for mobile devices today will work for Windows 8 Metro apps tomorrow. God help us... |

I love it. Currently using it on 3 different devices, and enjoying the process on all 3. Its not nearly as bad as people say it is, and the improvements under the hood makes it much better than windows 7 |
Which style are you currently using? I like the idea of having a style that works best for mobiles, can you help me find one?
Maybe this? And use this for detection? Quote:

I Think an app that links to a mobile version would be a great option!

Why an app?
I have ss as a link directly on my home screen. |

It seems like there's some easy ways to show the news and forums in a mobile view. Can you set up 2 seperate sites? Ex mobile.subsim.com/news & mobile.subsim.com/forums It should then be possible to link to these sites in apps... Simple and easy for all platforms... |
