Geforce 460 bugs

Hi there!

Having a really bad day here. Got my old Sidewinder FFB working again with a soundblaster live gameport and wanted to try some oldies. BOB2 works ok, but no FFB. Mig Alley starts but the graphics are corrupted with some flare strobe effect. X-wing Alliance has the same graphics bug. It has something to do with incompatible ddraw versions with newer Nvidia drivers I think. Tried multi-monitor with Black Shark, but ooops, Nvidia manage to scrap the horizontal span functionality. So that's what I got for buying a newer Nvidia card...

So anyway, just checking if someone here knows:

1. Enable horizontal span with newer Geforce cards?
2. How to get FFB in BOB2? (it works in other games)

Thanks for any help!

1. Right-click your desktop > screen resolution.

I wish it was that easy!

Er, it is. "extend these displays", voila, horizontal span. :-?

I'm assuming Win7, since you didn't specify. Not that it's much different in XP.

Nope, it's only dual view, clone or dual, no horizontal span. So I can split screen in FS2004 for example (which use extended screen) but not in Black Shark (which uses horizontal span). And this is because newer Geforce cards no longer support horizontal span...

No, seriously, I have a GTX460 and 2 monitors in horizontal span. I'm not making this up here.

edit: aaah, I think I'm catching on now. Present 2 monitors as one, right. You can still do it for DCS if disable full-screen and tinker with the config files a bit.

For the record though, it's a Windows thing.

Newer cards, Nvidia and AMD, automatically assume you want to extend your desktop when you add on a new monitor. Now, are both monitors the same resolution? If so, just add up the horizontal pixels and change your resolution in the options.lua. If you have two 1920X1080s your resolution should be 3840x1080..

Ok, so there is light in the tunnel!

I have 42" 1920x1080 as scenery screen and a 24" 1920x1200 as the shkval/abris screen. Is that possible?

It is. In the options screen you can select a configuration, but you'll need to tweak/create a file yourself. The ones provided are really just examples. With your custom config selected, type in the combined resolution in the options screen (rather than selecting something from the dropdown menu).

The game then simply renders a window of the specified resolution, with the config determining borders and position for the main view and additional elements.

Keep in mind that the total area needs to be a square though. If you have those monitors side-by-side, you need to use the total width plus the maximum height. Makes for 3840x1200.

Also, make sure you align the displays at the bottom, or part of the menu is unusable in MP. Can do that by dragging the icons in the Windows resolution window.

Aaah! Finally got it up and running. Thanks for spurring me on!

However, I was sad to note that the Abris buttons aren't clickable in the second monitor though...
