Mission editor questions

Hi all,

I am having a problem with the mission editor (aside from it being a "click-fest").

I have tried a number of times to create a mission with a Gato-class sub. It lists in the editor as a Gato-class, but when I go to open the mission it lists the sub class as Gar and a Gar seems to be what I get (although I think in one of them I actually got a Gato despite it saying Gar).

Also, I am mystified as to how to give my mission a proper title. I've tried a number of options but all I seem to get is Mission title.

I never had time time to use the SHIII editor much - I guess I had better find the manual and re-read it because I am doing something wrong.

Is there a walk-through for building a simple mission, esp with triggers?

Thanks

I have looked at ME 4 and used it quickly to set up some
test shots.

I believe the problem with Gar an Gato may have to do
with years of availability as described in your mis file.
however Im not certain thats correct as both subs
have seperate files in data/submarine file

as for naming I havent done it yet but my suspicion
is that if I put the name in under mission parameters
(where you write the mission blurb) then I suspect
it will show that way.

I cant locate a specific SH4ME manual yet.

Thanks,

The PTO is my preferred theater so I am more keen to write missions for this than I was in SHIII. Now I just need to get over the learning curve.

I finally got some random groups to work last night - but creating groups by hand is a real PITA.

The editor in SH4 works the same as in SH3 but is a bit more complex.
You have to edit the TSR file along with the MIS file. All headings &
names have to be EXACTLY alike. The TGA image file won't show up
but I don't know if the game actually needs it or not. I just renamed
another one and placed it in my new mission folder...

When you say "TGA file" is this in reference to the map of the area in which the mission takes place? If so, how do you go about inserting the correct map?

I find it very irritating because you can't see the mission brief during the selection (or I'm doing something wrong).

Using the method I described earlier I met with no success
on naming

in sh3 editor you can copy and paste the whole group of mission
units and groups by click and drag highlight over all and control
c and v to paste or if text based the mis file saves it that way.

The tsr file I would have to assume is the mechanism where by
the campaigns and missions are assembled in SH4 . if you look
at the campaign layers they are segmented instead of a single
block like in sh3 this helps with loading speed and running load.
and is a good feature but I have to learn to utilize it.

Where is it that your going to edit the TSR file?.

See my post in this thread:

Editing the TSR file has to be done OUTSIDE of the editor
after you have done all the mission setup and saved it.

Did you figure out how to get the mission name in to your game
its in text specific strings under mission validation.

Yes. I now have the names in. Thanks. Now I'm working on understanding the rest posted above.

Thanks to all for your help!
