5 Greatest Threats the US Navy Faces Today

Quote:

The U.S. Navy is a victim of America’s success. Thanks to America’s global network of interests and alliances, the Navy’s area of responsibility is for all intents and purposes the entire planet, with very few bodies of water off limits. From the Black Sea to the Yellow Sea, the Navy is expected to show the flag—or fight—around the world.

Such a vast area of responsibility also means that the U.S. Navy has to be able to prevail against an equally vast array of threats. From the low-tech speedboats and mines of the Iranian Navy to the high-tech antiship ballistic missiles of the People’s Republic of China, the Navy must be prepared to deal with them all. Here’s a roundup of five of the greatest threats.
Interesting analysis, but most of these threats don't affect America's nuclear submarines. :know:

There is a new threat coming for all submarines ... a silent drone that sits on the bottom of the ocean in someone's inlet, someone's safe harbor, someone's patrol area that can be programed to rise up when it hears the distinct sounds a nuclear submarine makes (not to sure about diesel boats on batteries) and then like a remora on whales and sharks it attaches itself to your hull, clunk.

Now they can follow you across an ocean or watch you do slow turns to avoid being detected and send a plotting signal every time the sub comes up for a quick look around.

Isn't the future exciting? :yep:
